About texture
texture is the writing and editing business of Selena Hanet-Hutchins – a business trusted by agents, publishers, authors, small businesses, community groups and digital producers. The texture workroom and community reading room, in Kangaroo Valley, is a space in which to connect with other writers and readers and to celebrate words and story – in creative works and in the world.
I’ve worked in publishing for the past ten years, both in my freelance editing business and in positions at Allen & Unwin and Selwa Anthony Author Management Agency. This experience, combined with a longstanding and active interest in film, theatre and interactive storytelling, a degree in Creative Writing and a Diploma of Book Editing and Publishing, has allowed me to develop the skills I’ll bring to our work together. I also teach Editing at the University of Wollongong, write books and speak and present workshops on writing and editing, including for Editing in Paradise and for writers’ centres and groups.
Working together
Editing is a collaborative process. Sometimes, if I feel your project requires specialist work in certain areas, I’ll talk to you about bringing in trusted colleagues to work with us. For example, I prefer to leave things like indexing, design and typesetting, photography, coding, and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to the experts.
Occasionally, I have an intern working with me and it can be valuable to have their input as well, but only ever with your consent and under the strictest confidentiality.
